How to prevent wipes from damaging grinder and macerating pumps

“Flushable” wipes can create serious problems for grinder and macerating pumps. Unlike toilet paper, wipes—including products such as Dude Wipes—may not break down quickly after being flushed. They can become tangled in pump components, causing clogs, shutdowns, expensive service calls, and potentially damaged equipment.

Facilities such as gyms, offices, apartment buildings, schools, and public buildings often struggle with visitors flushing wipes and other items that should go in the trash. Signs and reminders can help, but they are not always followed.

Traptex® provides a physical first line of defense. Installed inside the toilet, it helps prevent wipes and other non-flushable items from entering the plumbing system while allowing normal waste and toilet paper to pass. Stopping these materials at the toilet can help prevent them from reaching and clogging a grinder or macerating pump.

Is Traptex® Compatible With Low-Flow Toilets?

Traptex® does not typically work well with low-flow toilets. We recommend using Traptex® on toilets rated at 1.5 GPF (gallons per flush) or more. Toilet bowl designs and trapway openings can also vary, so proper fit and compatibility should be confirmed before ordering.
